Japanese Sake

Date 16th Apr 2026
Date Vino Gusto, Vino Gusto, Hatter Street, Bury Saint Edmunds, UK

A perfect evening for wine drinkers looking to branch out, or anyone who’s ever thought: “I don’t really get sake… yet.”

Join Evelyn of team VG for an evening dedicated to Japan’s most quietly complex drink. We’ll explore what sake really is (spoiler: it’s not quite wine, not beer, and definitely not vodka), how it’s made, and why rice polishing, water, yeast and temperature matter far more than you might expect.

You’ll taste a carefully curated line-up of styles, from clean, delicate and aromatic to richer, savoury and umami-driven expressions. Along the way, we’ll demystify terms like Junmai, Ginjo and Daiginjo, talk about how sake should actually be served, and why it deserves a place at the table well beyond sushi night.

As always, this is relaxed, informal and very drinkable. No prior sake knowledge needed.
