Abbeygate Cineme re-opens after Lockdown 2...
As the nation's second lockdown draws to a close, Bury St Edmunds’ popular independent cinema, Abbeygate Cinema, is getting ready to open its doors … again … and has an exciting festive schedule of films and events to delight and lift spirits from Wed 2 Dec.
Many films and events on sale prior to lockdown 2 have been rescheduled so anyone with tickets won’t have to miss out and the cinema, well aware that now, more than ever, is a time people will need cheering up and will be looking for some form of COVID-secure entertainment, have worked hard on a Christmas film programme to appeal to all ages and tastes.
The cinema’s website is bursting with ‘big screen’ seasonal delights and Christmas film favourites including A CHRISTMAS GIFT FROM BOB (A Christmas-themed follow-up to A Streetcat Named Bob) starring Luke Treadaway, A CHRISTMAS CAROL (2020) starring Simon Russell Beale, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis and Carey Mulligan, KATHERINE JENKINS: CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR and of course, Frank Capra’s enduring seasonal great, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE.
In addition, there are some new films on sale as the cinema re-opens on Wednesday including: MANK – 1930s Hollywood is re-evaluated through the eyes of scathing wit and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he races to finish ‘Citizen Kane’. Starring Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried and Charles Dance.
MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM – Adapted from August Wilson’s play and starring Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman.
THE PROM (Meryl Streep, James Corden and Nicole Kidman).
With the spectacular addition of the cinema’s Premier Screen which was unveiled earlier in the year, there are some great events you won’t want to miss on the full-size 4K screen with its state-of-the-art projector including CINEMA PARADISO IN 4K, UNCLE VANYA (Toby Jones), NT: WAR HORSE and ROH: THE NUTCRACKER.
Andrea Holmes, Marketing Manager, is keen to emphasise that the cinema will be opening with the same high level of COVID safety measures as before which had resulted in customer confidence prior to lockdown 2 and had seen a healthy increase in people’s appetite for big screen entertainment in the current climate. She explains ‘Although we are disappointed to find our region has been placed in Tier 2, we are confident that the number of COVID safety measures we have in place which have been tried and tested prior to the recent lockdown, will continue to build customer confidence and reassure cinema-goers that they can visit us safe in the knowledge that their safety is paramount and we look forward to opening our doors and welcoming our lovely customers once more!’
Andrea goes on to say ‘Next week, we will also be launching our new ‘order at table’ facility for diners at No.4 Restaurant & Bar. Currently practicing full table service, this new addition will mean diners will have the additional option of placing their orders via an app!’
