Abbeygate Cinema Launches 'Befriending Service' for Lockdown 2...

With sadness and regret, Abbeygate Cinema will be temporarily closing their doors once more following the Government's recent National lockdown announcement planned from Thu 5 Nov to Wed 2 Dec, 2020.

The team at the popular independent cinema in Hatter Street have been buoyed by the wonderful feedback they have received on the high level COVID-secure measures they have in place and how this, along with the full and diverse film schedule they have been able to offer in recent weeks, despite challenging programming issues, was building on customer confidence and resulting in the cinema becoming a busy and vibrant place once more.

Having recognised the impact a further lockdown is likely to have on their valued patrons, many of whom fall into the vulnerable category and may feel isolated during this second period of lockdown, the cinema is delighted to announce the launch of a ‘Befriending’ Service which will give any of their regulars struggling with isolation and loneliness the chance to have a chat with Pat Church.

A well-known face of the cinema with over 50 years’ service with many a story to tell, Pat is a much-loved member of the community too. He has welcomed and entertained the cinema’s regular customers during many ups and downs and is keen to help again by offering a phone chat service during the hours 2-4pm on Mondays during lockdown.

Anyone who would like to ‘have a chat with Pat’ to help ease the loneliness and isolation this second lockdown might bring and would appreciate some familiarity and contact with the cinema they love, can phone Pat on 01284 754477 on Lockdown Mondays between 2pm-4pm.

The cinema, who recognise the importance of being there for the local community and are well-known for running Dementia-Friendly Screenings and working with local schools and colleges on film education are not charging for this service and the length of a call will be determined in consideration of other callers.

Andrea Holmes, Marketing Manager explains ‘Many of our regulars fall into the vulnerable category and their wellbeing will undoubtedly be impacted by a second lockdown. Pat has been chatting to lots of customers over recent weeks, many having only just started to come to the cinema again, their confidence building when they have seen the COVID-secure measures we have in place and this idea was born from Pat’s wish to help ease the isolation for our regular customers which a second lockdown might bring.’

She continues ‘Pat has a wealth of knowledge about the cinema and is a great story teller. What better way to take away the Monday lockdown blues? Enjoy a ‘Chat with Pat’.’ In other news, the cinema is working hard to reschedule films and events which fall in the period 5 Nov - 2 Dec to a later date and remain on sale with some great Christmas films/events for when we can welcome our customers back to the big screen once more including:
