AN EXHIBITION OF BOTANICAL PAINTINGS “AUTUMN GLORY”...
Iceni Botanical Artists are pleased to be returning to The Guildhall, Bury St. Edmunds, from 22 -28th October 2022 with an exhibition of flower paintings entitled “Autumn Glory”.
The airy Banqueting Hall is blessed with excellent natural light and is elegantly suited to a display of botanical art. This style of painting has a long history, becoming well established in early Greek and Roman times as necessary for plant identification. Since then it has evolved into a wide range of floral art from impressionistic and free form to accurate illustrations, still in demand for scientific publications.
Iceni Botanical Artists’ highly talented membership include several nationally distinguished, award winning artists in this field , and their styles vary from classical, botanically accurate plant portraits to broader interpretations of botanical forms and landscapes. Watercolour is the main choice of medium, although oil, acrylic, graphite and ink are also featured.
Something for everyone you might say!
IBA have recently embarked on a new two-year project entitled “A Year in Fullers Mill Garden” which they hope will become their second publication following the success of their book “Breckland Wild Flowers” in 2016. The most beautiful gardens in West Stow, owned and managed by Perennial, were the creation of the late Bernard Tickner, and his choice of plants well reflect his love of plant form, texture and colour, all year round.
