Cara Dillon...

Cara Dillon has one of those rare talents you only come across a handful times - a staggeringly beautiful voice which reaches inside the soul of a song and imbues it with sweetness, poignancy and depth.

This extraordinary Irish singer has been captivating audiences for over 20 years with, according to Mojo magazine, "Quite possibly the world's most beautiful female voice.

"Cara was brought up in a close musical family, immersed in the rich cultural heritage of her native County Derry.

Having won the All Ireland Traditional Singing Trophy aged only 14 she went on to sing with Oige, De Dannan and then Equation. It was in this band that she met her husband and musical collaborator Sam Lakeman (brother of Seth).

The combination of Cara's expressive vocals and Lakeman's rippling piano and fresh production squeezes new life into ancient material. Their original songs sit happily alongside traditional tunes, whilst pointing to a distinct and distinguished musical identity all of their own.

"...her voice is a thing of wonder: a warm yet precise tool that locks into the expansive humanity at the heart of these ancient songs.”

The Guardian, 4 star live review.

Cara admits to being taken aback by the success of her acclaimed Christmas album ‘Upon A Winter’s Night’ when it reached Number 1 in the Indie Album Charts twice in 2016. Now in its sixth year, the overwhelming success of previous ‘Winter’s Night’ tours have cemented this magical experience as a firm festive favourite.

Returning to The Apex on Sunday 18 December, Cara and her band will provide a welcome reminder that the festive season can be about more than just commercialism, with a collection of ancient and modern songs, Celtic and folk rhythms alongside atmospheric carols.

“A reminder of the real meaning of the Festive Season, uplifting and inspirational” The Daily Echo.

Cara Dillon brings ‘Upon A Winter Night’ to The Apex on Sunday 18 December at 7.30pm. See www.theapex.co.uk or ring 01284 758000 for more information or to book tickets.
