Autumn at The Apex…
Once the nights start drawing in, a show at The Apex will bring some brightness to your evening…
Some familiar names include Elkie Brooks, Leo Sayer and Merrill Osmond. Howard Jones Acoustic Trio will bring a fresh take on his best-known hits, while Matt Cardle will perform his debut album in full.
Britain’s former No 1 tennis player, Sue Barker will talk about her new autobiography; conservationist Saba Douglas Hamilton will share the trials and triumphs of trying to save the African elephant; and you can hear stories and banter from Phil Thompson, Sammy Lee and Bruce Grobbelaar in An Evening with Liverpool Legends. Forensic pathologist, Dr Richard Shepherd will shed light on some of his high-profile autopsies; while ITV’s Tour de France commentator Ned Boulting returns with advice on 'How To Win The Tour de France'. Or at least 'How To Watch It On The Telly'!
Fans of independent music might enjoy James Skelly and Nick Power of The Coral; Two-Tone Ska with Neville Staple - From The Specials; a joyous set of classic tracks from The Undertones; solo work from Hugh Cornwell and a glorious collision of styles and genres from Martin Stevenson & The Daintees.
Lovers of rock and blues can choose from Dare, led by former Thin Lizzy keyboard player Darren Wharton; a high voltage tribute to AC/DC by Live/Wire; British Prog heroes Caravan; powerhouse vocalists Jo Harman and Mike Harris; and Joanne Shaw Taylor.
There will be a swinging time at the BBC Big Band, The Puppini Sisters and Mark Kingswood, and winner of seven British Jazz Awards, Claire Martin with the David Newton Trio.
Contemporary folk favourite Seth Lakeman returns, as does Richard Digance. There’s beautifully crafted music from McGoldrick, McCusker & Doyle, The Magpie Arc and ‘Send in the Clowns’ singer Judy Collins. Skipinnish, Blazin’ Fiddles, Talisk and Peatbog Faeries bring Scottish jigs and reels and there is country music from Albert Lee and Beth Nielsen Chapman.
And it's not just music! There’s comedy from Hal Cruttenden; ‘Tango Passions’ from Strictly Come Dancing’s Vincent Simone; and jaw-dropping balancing acts and acrobatics from The Black Blues Brothers.
