Wonders Beyond Numbers...

Johnny Ball’s ‘Think of a Number’ TV shows inspired a whole generation, and now their children and grandchildren are being caught up by his engaging style in a show that is delighting audiences around the country.

Without maths we simply can’t understand the world around us. It is everywhere and it’s easy to take for granted. Without it, there’d be no time, electricity, buildings, transportation, measurements, medicines or technology. So, who better to take us on a magical tour of everything mathematical than Johnny Ball?

Without a single moment of maths boredom, ‘Wonders Beyond Numbers’ is a fun-packed, motivational show for all the family. “It helps if you like maths, but even if you don’t ‘Wonders Beyond Numbers’ will leave you mesmerised because, as Galileo said, “everything in the Universe is written in the language of numbers”. Fantastic stuff.” Engineering & Technology, IET.

A master communicator and ex stand-up comedian, Johnny Ball uses his trademark enthusiasm for mathematics to keep his audience enthralled, as he tells of the ancient Greek who, 2,500 years ago sorted out the maths we need to put satellites into orbit today and how Christopher Columbus ended up further away from where he was going.

“British inventions using maths include railways, tyres, submarines, computers, the jet engine, ultrasound… You can’t understand our history without people like Sir Isaac Newton or Ada Lovelace. You simply can’t understand Britain’s place in the world without maths.” Education Minister Elizabeth Truss.

So, the next time you handle money, surf the internet, or follow a recipe, stop to appreciate numbers and what they’ve given you!
