Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festival at The Apex...
Following the success of the first year, Solid Entertainments are pleased to announce the second annual Bury St Edmunds Blues, Rhythm and Rock Festival at The Apex on 28 August.
Chantel McGregor, Dana Gillespie and the London Blues Band have been confirmed as this year's headliners:
Imagine the tone and inspiration of Jimi Hendrix, the energy of Royal Blood plus the intensity of Black Keys, contrasting with haunting vocal of Stevie Nicks, all rolled into one... Chantel McGregor has been hailed as one of the UK’s most exciting contemporary rock-blues artists. Chantel's blistering guitar virtuosity stuns the audience every time she plays Bury St Edmunds – she’s even released a live album, ‘Bury’d Alive’, recorded at The Apex!
After making her first record in 1964, Dana Gillespie is still recording, and released her 70th album at the end of 2019. In the 1970s she was the first Mary Magdalene in the West End musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. David Bowie wrote the song ‘Andy Warhol’ for her and she sang on his ‘Ziggy Stardust’ album. In the 60s and 70s she made many films, but Blues music has always been her first love. Her musicians, The London Blues Band, are considered to be the cream of the London Blues scene.
Blues and soul become entwined in the raw talent of singer-songwriter, Kyla Brox. Described as “the finest female blues singer of her generation”, she won the 2018 UK Blues Challenge and represented the UK at the 2019 International Blues Challenge in Memphis and the European event in the Azores.
When Rivers Meet burst onto the UK Blues scene with their debut record ‘The Uprising EP’ in April 2019 followed by their second EP ‘Innocence Of Youth’ in May 2020. Their unique harmonic vocal-led approach to song writing, dirty electric guitar, slide resonator mandolin and fiddle create a unique distinctive and contemporary blues-rock sound that echoes 1970’s classic rock, with hints of the 1930’s blues that inspire them.
The Ryk Mead Band are a power blues, jazz and rock trio. Guitar virtuoso, Ryk heads up the band; he started a gigging career in the late 60s and has built a reputation on solid experience, gained alongside artists such as Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Annie Lennox and Alison Moyet.
The Cinelli Brothers were born out of a common passion for electric Chicago and Texas blues from the 60s and 70s, when brothers Marco (guitarist and lead singer) and Alessandro (drummer) decided to form an explosive team showcasing original repertoire in the style of Chess, Stax and Motown.
The Blues, Rhythm & Rock Festival 2021 is at The Apex on Saturday 28 August, starting at 2pm. Ring the box office on 01284 758000 or see the website www.theapex.co.uk for more details.
