Ninebarrow Band at The Apex...

Ninebarrow are a multi-award-winning duo, who are impressing audiences across the country with their innovative and captivating take on the folk tradition. Described by Mark Radcliffe as sounding like ‘two halves of one voice’, by Seth Lakeman as ‘a fantastic duo’ and by Kate Rusby as ‘absolutely amazing’, Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere combine breath-taking vocal harmonies and melodies, delivering original songs that are inspired and rooted in the landscape and history of the British Isles.

In a few short years, the Dorset-based duo have carved themselves a distinctive niche on the folk roots scene for their outstanding harmonies, delicate instrumentation and engaging songs. As well as crafting unique and engaging original material, Ninebarrow also take a wide-range of traditional folk songs and rework them in their own, distinctive way.

The duo were nominated in the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award ‘Horizon’ category for Best Emerging Artist; their album, ‘The Waters and the Wild’ (released in 2018) was awarded 5-stars in both The Morning Star and the English Folk Dance & Song Society’s EDS Magazine, and has received airplay on BBC Radios 2, 3 and 6 Music and reached no.2 in the Amazon.co.uk Folk Chart. Folk luminary, Mike Harding, has hailed it as ‘absolutely monumental’. Most recently, they won ‘Best Duo’ in the 2019 Folking.com awards.

For the first time, the duo will be joined by cellist and long-term collaborator, Lee MacKenzie, John Parker on double bass and Evan Carson on percussion. With brand new songs and stunningly realised arrangements of some old favourites, The Ninebarrow Band promise something absolutely unique.

Not only exceptional singers and musicians, Ninebarrow are also equally passionate about the stories behind their songs. An evening with the duo isn't just an evening of great music - it's also a night of history, folklore, and storytelling. Ninebarrow are performing at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday 25 March at 7.30pm. Ring the box office on 01284 758000 or see the website www.theapex.co.uk for more details, or to book.
