Motown & Philadelphia Show at The Apex...

Roy G Hemmings embodies the musical golden era of the mid-’60s, and triumphs at capturing the energy and magnetism of singers back then. Artistes who captivated audiences with their sheer love of music, back when music was soul. Years later, Roy’s music has not lost its potency, it still excites and delights and can pull at both the feet and the heartstrings!

A premier soul act, The Drifters first rose to fame during the 1950s and produced a vast number of memorable songs including ‘Under The Boardwalk’, ‘There Goes My Baby’, ‘Save the Last Dance for Me’ and ‘There Goes My First Love’.

The Drifters had (and still has) a host of singers passing through its ranks and Roy was enlisted for his soulful voice. He went on to be the group’s longest-serving former member, working alongside founder Johnny Moore for more than 12 years.

With a career spanning four decades, Roy has unparalleled stage artistry and a rich, smooth voice. Showing no signs of stopping, he remains a very humble, down-to-earth guy who has an unquenchable passion for music. He admits, “There is no end date to this. I love what I do, and I will continue to perform until I can do it no longer.”

His 2017 album ‘Philly vs Detroit – The Sound of Philadelphia meets the Motor City’ included covers of hits such as; ‘Me & Mrs Jones’, ‘Ain’ No Stopping Us Now’, ‘Superstition’ and ‘It Takes Two’.

Motown and Philadelphia on tour is a big production which includes 6 singers and a full band, playing well-loved classics from the likes of The O’Jays, Candi Staton, The Stylistics, The Four Tops, The Supremes, The Temptations and Marvin Gaye.

Roy G Hemmings will be at the Apex on Saturday 15 February at 8pm. Contact The Apex Box Office on 01284 758000 or visit www.theapex.co.uk for more information or to book.
