Cara Dillon brings ‘Upon A Winter Night’ at The Apex...
Cara Dillon has one of those rare talents you only come across a handful times; her staggeringly beautiful voice has the ability to reach inside the soul of a song and imbue material with profound sweetness, poignancy and depth.
This extraordinary Irish singer has been captivating audiences for over 20 years with "Quite possibly the world's most beautiful female voice" (according to Mojo magazine).
Cara was brought up in a close musical family, immersed in the rich cultural heritage of her native County Derry. Having won the All Ireland Traditional Singing Trophy aged only 14 she went on to sing with Oige, De Dannan and then Equation. It was in this band that she met her husband and musical collaborator Sam Lakeman (brother of Seth). The combination of Cara's expressive vocals and Lakeman's rippling piano and fresh production squeezes new life into ancient material. Their original songs sit happily alongside the traditional, whilst pointing to a distinct and distinguished musical identity all of their own.
"...her voice is a thing of wonder: a warm yet precise tool that locks into the expansive humanity at the heart of these ancient songs.”
The Guardian, 4 star live review.
As modest and down to earth as they come, Cara admits to being taken aback by the success of her acclaimed Christmas album ‘Upon A Winter’s Night’ when it reached Number 1 in the Indie Album Charts twice in 2016. Now in its fourth year, the overwhelming success of previous ‘Winter’s Night’ tours have cemented this magical experience as a firm festive favourite.
Returning to The Apex on Tuesday 10 December at 7.30pm, Cara and her band will once again capture the mystery of Christmas with a collection of songs ancient and modern, providing a welcome reminder that the festive season can be about more than just commercialism. Cara will be joined by her wonderful band who weave Celtic and folksy rhythms alongside reverent and atmospheric carols while Cara holds the darkness at bay with the purity of her voice.
“A reminder of the real meaning of the Festive Season, uplifting and inspirational”
