Engaging Classical Music Theatre For Children...

Engaging Classical Music Theatre For Children

The Empty Chair is a mischievous adventure for ages 6 and over, which uses playful storytelling and irresistible music to explore the ways in which people and friendships grow and change.

Two people find their world turned upside-down by the mysterious silence of an empty chair. Aided by the whirling ThisThat (with occasional visits from a Blackhole), they rekindle their friendship as they get to grips with this puzzling object.

TROUPE tell vivid, colourful stories full of energy, humour and emotion, enriched by classical music, old and new. This boldly inventive show tackles big themes in an accessible way. The story is told through a blend of original poetry, audience participation and adventurous repertoire for voice, cello and piano, including works by Debussy, Couperin, Berio and Moondog, alongside new music by TROUPE.

“TROUPE are an innovative and inspiring group skilfully combining interactive storytelling, movement, drama and music to engage young audiences. Their refreshing and unique approach to exploring music is a joy to watch." Hermione Jones, Wigmore Hall.

Attendees are also invited to a free post-show workshop to explore the themes and music in the show. This lively workshop, run by the show's performers, has lots of opportunities for your children to tell their own stories and make their own music.

“A very engaging way to bring classical pieces to a very young audience, bringing movement and sound together” Audience Member.

The Empty Chair is at The Apex on Sunday 23 September at 11.30am. Tickets are £6, ring the box office on 01284 758000 or see the website - www.theapex.co.uk for details.
