Songbook Sundays at The Athenaeum
Songbook Sundays take place in the regal setting of Bury St Edmunds’ Athenaeum Ballroom, and feature the Chris Ingham Trio with special guest singers from the world of jazz.
On 25 March, you can hear Kevin Fitzsimmons with ‘A Swinging Affair’. The new British hero of swing singing, Kevin has been wowing the audiences of Ronnie Scott’s, New York’s Birdland and countless high-society events with his appealing voice, classic repertoire and on-stage charisma. The President of Sinatra Music Society was even heard to say “He is a far better singer than Buble, and has a most agreeable laid-back personality”!
On 20 May, Jessica Radcliffe sings ‘The Billy Holiday Songbook’. Jessica is one of London’s most accomplished jazz singers, appearing at Ronnie Scott’s, St James Studio and other top venues. She will put her own captivating spin on the rich, lovelorn repertoire made famous by the jazz vocal legend, Billie Holiday.
On 21 October, The Chris Ingham Quartet will perform Hoagy’s Children - a salute to the singer-songwriter-pianists who took their cue from the witty, jazzy work of great American composer Hoagy Carmichael. The show features songs from artists as diverse as Mose Allison, Randy Newman, Tom Waits and Jamie Cullum, as well as Hoagy himself.
On 16 December, Zoe Francis and Jim Mullen bring ‘Blossom Time’ – an affectionate tribute to the iconic singer-pianist Blossom Dearie, the ultra-hip purveyor of the Great American Songbook. Husband and wife team Zoe Francis (herself a graduate of the New York jazz vocal scene) and well-known guitarist Jim Mullen make an enchanting partnership for a unique homage.
