Butterfly's Wing to play The Apex ...
Butterfly’s Wing is a new quartet featuring Grammy-Award-winning singer Jacqui Dankworth, who play a panoply of seductive rhythms, with cutting-edge improvisation and lyrics.
Butterfly’s Wing’s stellar line-up also includes award-winning composer and jazz pianist David Gordon, Mercury Prize-nominated cellist Ben Davis and Christian Garrick, widely recognised as the country's leading jazz violinist.
Jacqui Dankworth is one of the most highly regarded vocalists in the UK. Known primarily as a jazz singer, Jacqui’s unique musical palette also draws on folk, soul, classical, blues, and numerous other influences. She is also an accomplished actor, having performed leading parts with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, and in London’s West End. Jacqui has performed and recorded with the likes of Courtney Pine, Paloma Faith, Clare Teale, Georgie Fame, Charlie Wood, Gregory Porter and The London Symphony Orchestra. 'The most expressive voice of her generation.' The Observer
Christian Garrick is an award-winning British jazz violinist and was the first jazz violin graduate of London's illustrious Royal Academy of Music. Christian has featured as a soloist with artists such as Nigel Kennedy, Dolly Parton, All About Eve, Duffy, Van Morrison, Dame Cleo Laine and the late great Sir John Dankworth. Christian is also leader of the Budapest Cafe Orchestra and is also a busy studio musician - his violin can be heard many film soundtracks, including Les Miserables, The Hobbit, The Imaginarium of Dr Parnasus, Chocolat, Brideshead Revisited, Chicago, Borat, Tomorrow Never Dies and The Book Of Life.
David Gordon leads Respectable Groove, a revolutionary experimental early music/jazz band, with recorder player Evelyn Nallen. David has played at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, many international jazz festivals and has also performed with Andy Sheppard, Norma Winstone and Harry Allen among many others.
Ben Davis is a member of the F-IRE Collective and he leads the Mercury-nominated group Basquiat Strings. His varied musical career encompasses classical, world, pop, early music and jazz. He has performed with Django Bates, Hassan Erraji, The Dufay Collective, Evan Parker, Christine Tobin, Steve Buckley, Kylie Minogue and Gilad Altzman.
Four fantastic musicians creating a wonderfull sound-world - by turns magical, witty, powerful - at once heart-rending, joyous and surreal.
