Arc shopping centre recognised in environmental awards...

Arc shopping centre has been recognised in the Green Apple Environment Awards, the annual international campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.

The Green Apple was awarded for a major overhaul of the lighting used in the shopping centre. The previous system that utilised 35 Watt bulbs has been replaced with new LED 7 Watt fittings with no detrimental effects on the brightness of the lighting.

The results are already proving positive, since the completion of the task, electricity usage shows a 15% reduction. Another longer term benefit is superior lifespan, based on hours of use they do not require replacing for between 5-7 years.

Coordinated by The Green Organisation, The Green Apple Environment Awards were launched in 1994 and have become well established as one of the most popular environmental campaigns in the world.

Centre Manager at arc shopping centre, Colin Roberts, said “We are delighted to have been awarded a Green Apple for our ongoing commitments to reducing energy use. As a major part of Bury’s town centre we want to be a leader in responsible business and through our efforts have achieved a 15% reduction in energy costs. What’s great is that due to the quality of the work we are sure shoppers will not even notice the difference. The project was a massive undertaking and to finish the works in just three weeks is a great testament to the great team we have at arc.”
