Bury’s talking……about the election!...
Bury’s talking……about the election!
Following on from it's successful poster campaign encouraging local women to vote, Bury St Edmunds Fawcett Society is now focusing on the whole electorate and aiming to get the town talking about politics and the election. They will be hosting a brand new event in the town called, Bury’s talking……about the election! #VotingMatters.
The event will be a ‘Politics Fair’ to encourage Bury St Edmunds residents to engage with the forthcoming general and local elections.
The event will take place in Charter Square in the Arc on Saturday 18th April. All parties putting candidates forward in Bury St Edmunds for the general and local elections on May 7th will be there, ready to talk to electors, explain their policies and answer the question: Why should I vote for you?
Bury’s talking……about the election! #VotingMatters is supported by local Member of the Youth Parliament and County Upper student Toby Jeffery and the British Youth Council. It has been timed to encourage last minute voter registration before the deadline on 20th April. Forms for registration, as well as for postal votes, will be available on the Fawcett Society’s stall at the event.
“There is a real issue with political participation in this country”, said Eleanor Rehahn, coordinator of Bury St Edmunds Fawcett Society group. “We are hoping that this event will take politics to the people and enable them to meet and talk to the candidates standing in this constituency. The more people that people engage with the election, and vote, the more representative the result will be”.
