Bury language school gets perfect score!
BLS English was delighted to receive the results of its recent inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in which it was awarded the highest possible grade of “Exceeding Expectations” in all areas.
The ISI is the government appointed body with responsibility for assessing all independent schools in the UK, the equivalent of Ofsted for the independent education sector.
Two inspectors visited the school for four days of intensive review on 12 – 16 November 2012. All aspects of the school were considered. The academic side of the school was obviously of paramount importance, and the inspectors found that “the school exceeds expectations for the curriculum, teaching and learners’ achievements” and could boast “knowledgeable and highly skilled
The results BLS English students achieve are above national averages. Director of Studies, Thomas Sealy said, “We’re absolutely delighted with the result. We have a great team who work very hard and, very importantly, care about the quality we provide. This is a result of that passion and work.” But school life is about more than just time spent in the classroom, and for its social programme, management, attention to student welfare, pastoral support as well as child protection for its younger learners, BLS was proud to achieve equally high marks.
Andrew Whitfield, Accommodation & Welfare Manager said “It just goes to show that we have quality people in the right departments. Last year was a busy year for BLS English and with everyone’s continued support we are looking at 2013 being equally busy, with many students and school groups returning. For most of our students, it’s their first time in the UK, and starting life in a second language can be an overwhelming and intimidating time. They spend half of their waking hours at school, and we’re here to make sure they are exciting and rewarding hours well spent! It really makes all the hard work worthwhile when you see results like this.”
Most of the students stay with hosts in and around Bury, and an inspector visited a number of homes finding that
“the standard of homestay accommodation is exceptionally good”. Sally Clarke, who coordinates the host accommodation for the school said “I was really pleased to receive their findings. We’re all very proud of our homestay team, and know our hosts to be a real asset to the school. I hear from students and group leaders all the time how great our hosts are, but it’s lovely to have this made official!”
School Principal, Ben Logan, who has been with the school since 2000, said “ISI also inspects schools such as Eton and Harrow – so to receive perfect scores is an amazing achievement for the BLS English team and places us firmly in the top 10 language schools in East Anglia.”
