Sand-tastic! Our Bury St Edmunds beach is back!...

Grab your sunscreen and bucket and spade – the urban beach is returning to Bury St Edmunds town centre after a four-year absence as part of the new-look Spring Fayre at the end of May.

For the first time since the pandemic, the Spring Fayre is back to its full strength with the much-loved stalls and activities traditionally associated with the major events organised by Our Bury St Edmunds. The Business Improvement District (BID) has also lined up some brand new attractions for the Spring Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May.

In addition to the beach another highlight this year is a series of virtual reality games for all ages from the very young to the young-at-heart to enjoy. Shoppers can browse approximately 80 stalls around the town centre with a focus on plants, flowers and crafts and an artisan and producers’ market on Angel Hill.

Chief Executive of Our Bury St Edmunds, Mark Cordell, said: “The urban beach has been much missed since we last had it here in 2019 and I know it will help make the Spring Fayre a brilliant event for all the family with a full day of fun and entertainment on both Sunday and Monday.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors from across Suffolk and further afield, because it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase Bury St Edmunds and everything it has to offer as a number of shops, bars and restaurants will also be open during the event. It also means local people who support town centre businesses throughout the year can enjoy a free day out too.”

The urban beach will be outside Moyses Hall and with no danger of being cut off by the tide, visitors can expect to enjoy deckchairs, Punch and Judy shows and feel the sand between their toes without having to sit in bank holiday traffic to reach some of the county’s coastal resorts. Other attractions of the weekend include a helter-skelter, roundabout and astronomy area, with big games including table football and mini golf at arc shopping centre.

Admission to the Our Bury St Edmunds Spring Fayre is free and it runs from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 28 and Bank Holiday Monday 29 May. For more information visit
