Our Bury St Edmunds businesses see Gift Card benefits...
Businesses in Bury St Edmunds are reaping the benefits of the town centre’s own Gift Card with a number saying it is bringing new customers through their doors. The card was launched just under a year ago and is now accepted by 60 different businesses. Hundreds of Gift Cards have been purchased and the spending of them has seen thousands of pounds ringing through the tills.
Gastrono-me on Abbeygate Street is one of the most popular businesses in the town centre where customers are spending the Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card. Owner Mike Simmonite said the card is being used in his restaurant on a regular basis and in many cases it’s by new rather than existing customers. He added: “We are delighted to support this and would encourage others to do so if they haven’t yet taken advantage of it. This is a real success for us and I’d like to thank Our Bury St Edmunds for this initiative that supports town centre businesses.”
Mark Cordell, Chief Executive Officer at Our Bury St Edmunds, said: “With 60 different businesses accepting the Gift Card – the most recent to sign up being Revel Outdoors – we can see that money is being spent broadly across the local economy. Quite a number of people, it would appear, are buying an experience such as a meal out or a visit to The Apex or the cinema. But we are also seeing a lot of card spend in our shops – whether that’s in the smaller independent gift shops or large stores that offer a wider range of items.”
The Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card can be bought online or in person at a number of town centre businesses including Vinyl Hunter, Buy The Light and Lorfords. Adding the amount to be gifted can then be done in a matter of minutes meaning it’s an instantly ready present for someone.
Colin Munro is the managing director of Miconex, the company which provides the technology for the Town and City Cards programmes. He said: “The wide range of businesses that are reaping the benefits of the Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card is extremely pleasing and it’s clear that visitors to the town as well as people who live and work there are making the most of it. The biggest benefit is that there is so much choice unlike being given a card that could only be used with one store or business. Whether it’s for a spot of retail therapy or the full Bury St Edmunds experience, every time one of the Gift Cards is used it’s supporting the town centre.”
The full amount on the Our Bury St Edmunds Card does not need to be spent all at once, and it’s simple to check online how much balance is left, where it’s previously been spent and where it’s accepted, with the number of businesses signing up growing all the time.
