Our Bury St Edmunds all set for April 12 re-opening...

Owners of shops and businesses in Bury St Edmunds are preparing to re-open after the Government’s confirmation on Monday that they will be able to do so from April 12 – with customer and staff safety critically adhered to. As the town prepares to welcome shoppers again, the Business Improvement District (BID) organisation Our Bury St Edmunds has launched a new video to showcase the town as part of its #BuryBouncingBack campaign. The video, made with the support of Bury St Edmunds Town Council, will be launched this weekend on the Our Bury St Edmunds YouTube channel and across its social media streams.

From Monday a number of new businesses that have moved into town during lockdown will also be preparing to open their doors. Our Bury St Edmunds Chief Executive Mark Cordell said: “It’s a huge vote of confidence in Bury St Edmunds town centre that we have this level of investment. There are a number in the hospitality and wellbeing sectors opening and plans for three new shops in the Buttermarket. A further five empty units have also had interest from prospective new tenants and in total I’m expecting 10 premises that were empty when we went into lockdown to be occupied as we emerge from it.

“We know how much the loyal customers of our town centre want to be able to support their favourite businesses and we’ve already seen that with the launch last year of the Our Bury St Edmunds Town Centre Gift Card. Nearly 60 different businesses can now accept it both in person and in some cases online for those who are not venturing out as much. It’s another way of supporting the town centre and shopping local.”

Many of the town’s established businesses feature in the new film, which has been made by Allegro Creative Agency following the highly successful Bury Merry Christmas film viewed around 150,000 times. They include big brands such as Hotel Chocolat and long-standing Bury St Edmunds favourites including Javelin, recently voted by readers of ‘Grazia’ one of the UK’s best boutiques, and Trotter and Deane.
