Under starter’s orders for Our Bury St Edmunds Festival of Sport
Olympic cyclist Jess Varnish is guest of honour at the annual curtain raiser charity event which kicks off the Our Bury St Edmunds Festival of Sport on Friday (October 18). She will speak at the Sports Aid lunch, which raises funds to support up and coming sportspeople in Suffolk and takes place at the Athenaeum.
The ten-day annual event runs until the following weekend and features sports clubs and organisations in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding villages, with the aim of encouraging residents to try new activities. A number of free events or one-off taster activities will also be taking place during the week and it culminates with the St Eds Running Festival at the Skyliner Sports Centre on Sunday October 27.
Our Bury St Edmunds Chief Executive Mark Cordell said: “Bury St Edmunds was recently awarded the Suffolk’s Most Active Town title and from the support the Festival has had in the past it’s easy to see why. Once again we’re very appreciative that both arc Shopping Centre and The Apex have offered venues for taster sessions which include Walking Netball, Zumba, and Music and Movement for family participation.
“Other town centre activities include Yoga sessions for all abilities at The Apex and Neal’s Yard and Bury Physio is offering a free intro to Pilates as well as a pop-up sports injury triage clinic.”
The Our Bury St Edmunds Festival of Sport is promoted by a partnership led by the Business Improvement District (BID) organisation Our Bury St Edmunds and including Abbeycroft Leisure and Suffolk County and West Suffolk Councils. For more information visit www.ourburystedmunds.com/festivalofsport.
