New Chairman to unveil Our Bury St Edmunds renewal plans
Businesspeople in Bury St Edmunds town centre have a chance to voice their views on ways in which it could be improved commercially at this month’s Business Improvement District (BID) AGM. Our Bury St Edmunds, which runs the BID has asked all its members to give their input as it plans for a renewal ballot that, if successful, would see it continue to operate until 2025.
At the AGM to be held at The Athenaeum on Tuesday June 18, members will have a chance to network and discuss their views with the organisation’s staff, directors and new Chairman Andrew Speed. Andrew, who previously led the BID to its first successful renewal, was recently voted into the role by the Board after his predecessor Garry Easter stood down, having moved away from Bury St Edmunds to a different branch of his workplace.
Our Bury St Edmunds Chief Executive Mark Cordell said: “This is an important year for our members, so I hope as many as possible will attend the AGM to discuss the way forward with my team, the other directors and our new Chairman. Andrew gave excellent leadership to the Board five years ago when we faced our last renewal ballot and that experience will be invaluable as we head towards what we hope will be a third term serving the businesses of Bury St Edmunds town centre.”
As well as giving their views in person at the meeting, member businesses are also being invited to express their thoughts in an online consultation which will be open until June 21. The results of an earlier survey directed at users of the town centre including residents and visitors as well as businesses will be announced at the AGM.
Andrew Speed commented: “I’d like to thank Garry Easter for the groundwork he did as we prepare for the renewal ballot and I look forward to building on that. Having served on the BID Board for eight years and as Chairman for three of them I hope to use that experience wisely to continue serving the town in which I am proud to run my business.
“As we did in 2014, we must look closely at the challenges facing town centres and the ways in which the BID can best support the member businesses in tackling them. I look forward to meeting established and newer members of the BID at the AGM and listening to their views.”
The AGM is open to all member businesses of Our Bury St Edmunds and will include an opportunity to network over refreshments before and after the business element of the meeting. It begins at 6.00pm.
