Beach and Beer Festival among Bury’s bumper Bank Holiday attractions
Beach lovers, bargain hunters and beer drinkers will all find something to delight them in Bury St Edmunds this Bank Holiday as the town centre gears up for one of its most popular annual events. The free-admission two-day Our Bury St Edmunds Whitsun Fayre is back on Sunday and Monday with stalls and attractions for all ages.
Among the highlights are a mini-farm where children can meet baby animals, the urban beach in its new location outside Moyse’s Hall Museum, astronomy sessions, and a wealth of stalls and street entertainment including the flower and plant market that has been held in the town over this weekend for more than 20 years.
Making the most of the weekend are a number of other events designed to complement the Our Bury St Edmunds Whitsun Fayre. A Beer Festival’s being held at The Beer House on Tayfen Road, with a selection of ales from across the UK and on Monday arc shopping centre transforms itself into a giant ‘arc-ade’. Traditional games such as Whack-a-mole and Mega Buzzer will be free for visitors to have a go at and there will be dozens of prizes to be won.
Chief Executive of Our Bury St Edmunds, Mark Cordell, said: “We can’t wait for this weekend, with so many fun attractions to enjoy. Why spend a fortune taking the family elsewhere when you can come into the town centre and make the most of the Our Bury St Edmunds Whitsun Fayre free of charge.
“In addition to everything else that is going on it will be the first opportunity to try to spot some of the Stars that have been put in place for our Theatre Star Trail that is running through the summer and of course many of our shops, bars and restaurants will be open too.”
The Our Bury St Edmunds Whitsun Fayre runs from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 26 and Bank Holiday Monday 27 May.
