Bury St Edmunds Festival of Sport website launched...
With a just a month to go before the opening day of Bury St Edmunds’ Festival of Sport, a website’s gone live detailing everything that’s happening during the nine-day event.
Dozens of ‘have-a-go’ activities will be taking place across the town centre during the Festival, and are now listed on the website. There is still room for clubs within the town to get involved by hosting ‘taster-sessions’ or other introductions to their sport.
The Festival of Sport will begin on Saturday 12 September, which is when the Tour of Britain cycle race will come through the town at around lunchtime and will run until the following Sunday (20 September). It’s being organised by a partnership including Our Bury St Edmunds, which manages the Business Improvement District (BID), along with Abbeycroft Leisure, St Edmundsbury Borough and Suffolk County Councils and Suffolk Sport.
The group is chaired by Our Bury St Edmunds Chief Executive Mark Cordell, who said: “The Festival of Sport website is there for all clubs in Bury St Edmunds to take advantage of. Its purpose is to advertise any sports-related activity during the Festival, whether it’s a training event that people are encouraged to participate in or something that might appeal to the armchair enthusiast such as the festival’s gala dinner at the Apex with TV and radio sports presenter John Inverdale as its special guest.”
As well as including the Tour of Britain stage, the Festival of Sport will also take in the opening Rugby World Cup match between England and Fiji at Twickenham on 18 September. In between there will be activities for people of all ages and abilities with everything from American Football to Zorbing.
There are still opportunities available for sporting groups who want to run an event to coincide with the festival or to get involved with the activities. Interested clubs based in or serving Bury St Edmunds should email Denise Moulton.
