Bears in the bananas as Bury celebrates Love Your Local Market...
There will be bears hiding among the bananas, and teddies peeping from behind the tulips, as Bury St Edmunds celebrates its market next Wednesday 27th.
Children are being invited to take part in the Great Bury Bear Hunt as part of a family day to celebrate national Love Your Market Fortnight (13-27). All they have to do is pick up a card from Moyse’s Hall Museum or from the giant teddy wandering around the market, find the 10 hidden bears as they shop with their family around the market, and list which stalls the teddies are on. They can then return the card to Moyse’s Hall Museum to receive a free mini Bury bear.
Sharon Fairweather, market development officer, said: “Our busy market already attracts shoppers from far and wide, and is a key part of Bury’s economic success thanks to the efforts of our loyal traders who set out their stalls twice a week no matter what the weather.
“We want people to celebrate our wonderful array of market stalls, to support out traders and to explore all that our fine market has to offer – and what better way for families to do this than by taking part in our Great Bury Bear Hunt on 27 May.
“We will also have our first teddy bear hospital on the market, on the same day, where children can bring along their favourite cuddly for a health check. Our teddy doctor will check your bear’s heart beat and apply bandages or plasters were required. Each child that brings their teddy along for a health check for will also receive a free mini Bury bear to take home.
“If that isn’t enough to entice, our stall holders will also be offering promotions as well as tasters on a delicious array of foods and drink. So there are loads of reason to support and Love Your Local Market this May.”
