Peter Duncan Pens Theatre Royal’s Panto! ...
Renowned Blue Peter man of action, Chief Scout, Olivier nominated actor AND, playwright Peter Duncan, the nation’s original daredevil is bringing his theatrical talents to bear once more, as he has put pen to paper - adapting Cinderella for the Theatre Royal’s 2014 panto!
Peter Duncan has a history of creativity, with an illustrious past as an actor (he recently starred in the popular production of Birdsong at the Theatre Royal), much time spent as a Blue Peter presenter, and also, quite a time penning pantomimes! He has now turned his formidable talents to crafting Fairy Godmothers, unpleasant step-sisters, unwitting fathers, downtrodden heroines and gallant princes, to sparkle and sing their way across the stage in the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds 2014 pantomime, Cinderella.
Cinderella and her beloved father live in the dilapidated Hardup Hall, helped by the ever-reliable Buttons, and watched over by a Fairy Godmother… Until one day, two spiteful stepsisters charge into their world and start to make things rather unpleasant for poor Cinders! But with a glamourous ball on the horizon, and a chance meeting with a handsome stranger in the forest, are Cinderella’s fortunes about to change? And can she get home before midnight…?
Known for its traditional, fun-filled, family pantos the Theatre Royal will once again be serving up a sparkling festive treat filled with catchy songs, silly jokes, and a lavish sprinkling of magic. And with those dastardly villains to hiss, boo, and ‘He’s behind you‘, along with miraculous mice, swirling dresses and some stupendous slapstick, you’re sure to have a ball!
The Theatre Royal’s Director, Karen Simpson, will direct Cinderella, as her debut piece for the Theatre. Karen’s previous directing work includes Some Like it Hotter which toured nationally in 2013 (Watermill Theatre, Newbury/Fresh Glory); Vertigo, Jungle Book, Loving April, Hansel and Gretel, River’s Up, Peach Boy, Dancing in my Dreams and Alice in Wonderland (Oxfordshire Theatre Company). Meanwhile, as founder and Artistic Director of Action Transport Theatre in the North West, she produced and directed over 60 productions for younger audiences.
