Sweet Charity...

Fancy a night of laughter, love, tears, joy, hope and feel-good toe-tapping music? Then join us for a night with “Sweet Charity” dance hall hostess Charity Hope Valentine, as the audience follows her adventures, her big hearted kindness, her love for the wrong man, her highs, lows and her never-ending hope about the good things in life.

With an amazing score by Cy Colemen the show takes us through “Big Spender”, “If My Friends Could See Me Now”, “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This”, and the all-time favourite “Rhythm of Life”.

There are tremendous dance routines, most notably The Frug which will truly amaze and delight our audiences.  Our high standards for acting, singing and dancing all come together in this fabulous production.  But you don’t have to take our word for it.  At our recent performance of Hot Mikado, one theatre goer was overheard commenting:

“I won’t be paying to go to London again to watch professional shows.  The BSEAODS productions I’ve watched here in Bury St Edmunds are equally as good as any professional London show I have seen!!”

No wonder then, that BSEAODS Hot Mikado has been nominated for the NODA East Best Musical 2013 (we won the Best Musical NODA Award in 2011 and 2012!!)… and we’ve also been nominated for the NODA East Award Best Play 2013 for our production of Calendar Girls and the NODA East Technical Award 2013 for our production of Sex and the Village.

That’s NODA Award nominations for each of our productions in 2013!!

For its production of Sweet Charity, BSEAODS has assembled a superb cast and production team.  The brilliant Louise Travis returns as director. Last year Louise directed our productions of Hot Mikado and Calendar Girls.  With Simon Pearce as Musical Director; Simon having won the NODA Award for Best Musical 2012 for our production of Half A Sixpence, and Sarah Franklin, who has recently choreographed stunning productions with Suffolk Young Peoples Theatre (SYPT), as our choreographer.  Our immensely talented cast are amongst the best in the region, with fantastic costumes, an outstanding set and terrific lighting effects, we aim to maintain the highest standards and to provide thrilling entertainment for our audiences.

So we invite everyone to come and see Sweet Charity, it’s a show for all the family – and the best start to Spring you could hope to have!
