Suffolk Armed Forces Day 2018

Suffolk Armed Forces Day 2018 is coming to The Abbey Gardens on Saturday 20th June between 11am and 4pm.

Armed Forces Day is a celebratory family fun day and a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets. There will be lots of activities for all the family including historic re-enactments, storytelling, military vehicles, arts and crafts and live music.

One of the many highlights of the day will be a low level flypast by a World War II Hurricane fighter. Alongside the Spitfire, the Hurricane was the workhorse flown by those brave RAF pilots, who Churchill nicknamed ‘The Few’ during the Battle of Britain.

Further activities throughout the day will also include living history re-enactments from throughout the ages, including the Norwich & Norfolk Medieval Association, the 95th Rifles Living History Society and the Suffolk Regiment Living History Society. For those of you with children who have energy to burn, there we will also be a climbing wall, fun fair rides and lots of more relaxed activities such as face painting and arts and crafts activities. Live music will be provided by artists including the Haverhill Silver Band and Bury St Edmunds Concert Band.

I would particularly like to invite you to attend the opening of the day event at 10.50am in the Abbey Gardens, where you will hear from the Mayor of St Edmundsbury and the Suffolk Armed Forces Commissioner.

There is no need to RSVP, simply turn up on the day to this free event.

For those of you wishing to enjoy a whole day of celebrations, we also have a 'Last Night of the Proms' style Armed Forces Day Concert taking place at The Apex from 7.30pm on 30th June, tickets are on sale from The Apex.
