Dinner in the Cathedral ...
Friends of the Cathedral Choir (FOCC) Dinner Under the Tower
Saturday, 27 April, saw a lucky couple dine in one of the most beautiful settings Bury St Edmunds has to offer – under the magnificent tower in the Cathedral!
Newlyweds, Sean and Jessica West received the prestigious invitation as a surprise present from Jessica’s father, Mark Dunn (a Cathedral Server) who won the romantic event in the FOCC ‘Something Special’ Auction.
On arrival the couple were seated and presented with the evening menu whilst James Thomas (Director of Music) set the mood with a selection of romantic pieces on the Cathedral’s Steinway. Having made their Starter choices, the FOCC’s Dinner-suited waiters (John Thorpe and Richard Franklin) set off for The Angel Hotel’s kitchens and picked up Asparagus Soup and Grilled Quail at the Pass. The race was then on to get the first course across Angel Hill, through the Cloisters and to the table without spillage or unpalatable loss of heat!
In between courses, the couple were attentively looked after by FOCC head sommelier (Stephen Dart) and Maitre d’ (Terry Stark) and enjoyed a guided walkabout of the building. Following further courses, and sprints to the kitchens, Chicken, Thai Salmon, Crème Brulee, New York Crack Pie, Coffee and petit fours were all enjoyed by Sean and Jessica and at the end of the evening they returned to The Angel where a wonderful room awaited them.
It was a great fun evening for all involved and something that Sean and Jessica will remember fondly. Special thanks go to the Angel staff for their wonderful support especially in allowing two novices into the kitchens during a frenetic Saturday night service whilst never once resorting to the Gordon Ramsay treatment!
The FOCC auction was launched to raise funds for the Cathedral Choir and raised over £6,000.
