New – Exclusive Cathedral Treasures guided tours...
St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, is offering two exclusive tours for Suffolk Day, Monday 21 June. Join a special ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the Ancient Library and the Treasury at 10.30 am or 2.00 pm. Visitor numbers are strictly limited to 4 visitors per tour.
Find out about the Cathedral’s unique collection of books, housed in the beautiful setting of the Ancient Library. The Librarian will explain the fascinating history of the Library and showcase a variety of books, giving visitors the chance to see key volumes up close. Moving onto the Treasury, visitors will have the chance to see elaborate and exquisite treasures, including the Bury Cross.
The one-hour long tour is limited to 4 people only at each time due to COVID restrictions. Please note that due to the location of the Library and the Treasury within this ancient building, the only access is via a spiral staircase. Face coverings must be worn throughout the visit. Cost £5 per person, payable on the day in the Cathedral Shop. To book please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
“We are delighted to be able to offer something very special on Suffolk Day,” comments Sarah Friswell, Visitor Experience Manager at the Cathedral. “These tours give the opportunity to delve into our history and discover some of the riches right on our doorstep.”
These tours will be offered on other dates over the summer. Email email@example.com if you are interested in taking the tour at a later date. The regular daily tours of the Cathedral will also restart on Monday 21 June. Tours are available Monday to Saturday at 11 am. These last 45 minutes, covering the main building and its stories and cost £5. Tickets can be bought on the day in the Cathedral Shop.
