New course offered at St Edmundsbury Cathedral...
Meditation and prayer have been practiced for centuries in different traditions. They continue to be needed today. Tony Kimber and Canon Matthew Vernon want to share the treasures of these ancient practices at a new twelve-week course, entitled ‘Practising Peace’. The course, which is being offered by St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, starts on Thursday 20 May and is open to anyone who is interested. The fortnightly sessions start at 6.30 pm and last 75 minutes. They take place either at the Cathedral or in the Abbey Gardens. T
ony Kimber, of Mindful You, said, “Mediation and prayer can lead to greater peace of mind and compassion – which benefits us and others. Practising peace helps everyone.”
Canon Matthew continued, “We have discovered that prayer and mindfulness have a lot in common. Our phones and devices bombard us with distractions and it can be difficult to live in the present, aware of God’s presence. Our minds skip from one thought to the next. Through mindful meditation and Christian prayer, we have found how to notice our mind’s activity and emotions without being dominated by them. This leads to being more centred, balanced and aware. It helps us notice the divine all around.”
