Radical inspiration in Lent...
From Wednesday 17 February, Ash Wednesday, the church moves into the season of Lent, a period of 40 days of reflection and preparation before Holy Week and Easter. This year St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, is offering a rich programme of online talks, musical reflections, services and discussion groups. Full details can be found on the Cathedral website https://stedscathedral.org/whats-on/lent2021
On Ash Wednesday join the service at 7.00 pm, livestreamed on the Cathedral’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stedscathedral which will include the traditional ‘ashing’, marking a sign of the cross on your forehead using ash from palm crosses.
On Wednesday evenings, at 7.00 pm on Zoom, an inspirational line up of speakers will give talks under the heading ‘Radical Faith’. Hear about an anarchist feminist devoted to helping the poor (24 February), listen to stories of priests who stood up to fascism (3 March) and reflect on modern martyr, Archbishop Janani Luwum, Archbishop of Uganda.
“In these challenging times, we are reminded of the difficulties which many people of faith have endured in many different circumstances,’ comments Canon Matthew Vernon, Sub Dean and Canon Pastor. “Lent is a time to reflect more deeply on our faith journey. This year, as we do this from the isolation of our homes, we may gain fresh insights and inspiration.”
There will be daily music reflections shared on the Cathedral’s social media channels as well as Friday Lunchtime talks given by curates from across the Diocese. Full details of all online services at the Cathedral are available on the website https://stedscathedral.org/worship
