Holocaust Memorial Day...
On Wednesday 27 January 2021, two events will take place to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, hosted by St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Firstly at 10.30 am there will be short service available on the Cathedral’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stedscathedral led by the Reverend Canon Matthew Vernon, Sub Dean and Canon Pastor. The service, which is an annual event organised in partnership with West Suffolk Council, will include readings, prayers and music led by local councillors, pupils from Guildhall Feoffment School and Cathedral staff and musicians.
“Although we cannot meet as usual in the Peace garden in the Abbey Gardens, it is important that we continue to observe this important anniversary with its theme this year to ‘be a light in the darkness,’ comments Canon Matthew Vernon.
Later, at 7.00 pm, a talk on Zoom will explore ‘The Music of Auschwitz’. Led by the Reverend Lucy Dallas, Vice-Principal of the Eastern Region Ministry Course and alumnus of Yad Vashem, this will discuss music composed in Auschwitz and subsequently found, collated and performed.
