Become a Cathedral detective this summer

Come to St Edmundsbury Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds this summer and follow our brand new Discovery Detective trail. Aimed at families with children aged 6-10, the trail can be downloaded https://stedscathedral.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Discovery-Detectives-Trail.pdf before you visit. Don’t forget to bring a pen and notebook and maybe a magnifying glass or binoculars. The trail takes you through the parts of the Cathedral which are open and then around the outside of the building looking for clues.

On completion of the trail, pop into the Cathedral Shop to collect a badge. ‘After spending so much time indoors or in front of a computer screen, we hope that this trail gives families the chance to get out and about and have some fun together,’ comments Sarah Friswell, PR Manager for the Cathedral. ‘Even with the current restrictions there is much to discover if you look up and around you at the Cathedral.’

Adult visitors are reminded that it is necessary to wear a face covering when visiting the Cathedral. Whilst you are there, why not visit Pilgrims’ Kitchen which offers barista coffee, Fairtrade teas, home baked scones and cakes and light lunches? The café has a beautiful large garden area, with views of the Cathedral tower, where visitors can relax and enjoy their refreshments. Adjustments have been made to the number of tables and seats available and the counter is fitted with a screen to allow customers to be served with confidence. Pilgrims’ Kitchen is open seven days a week, from 10 am.

The Cathedral Shop offers a range of unique gifts, local interest books, music CDs, greetings cards and foodstuffs. The staff on duty will be on hand to help visitors and to ensure that numbers in the Shop are kept to the required limit, whilst giving customers the chance to browse at leisure. The Shop is open from Monday to Saturday 10 am to 3 pm.
