US themed tour at St Edmundsbury Cathedral...
The final tour in a series of themed tours of St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, takes place on Saturday 4 July. These tours give local residents and visitors the opportunity to find out more about Suffolk’s Cathedral and to enjoy refreshments in the Cathedral’s restaurant, Pilgrims’ Kitchen.
The tour starts at 10 am and, because of the significant date, the theme is American Connections. This tour will give a detailed insight into some of the Cathedral’s links with the United States, including the story of Bartholomew Gosnold, founder of Jamestown, Virginia and more recent links to the US forces stationed here in the 2nd World War.
‘The series of themed tours, which started in May, has proved popular,’ comments Sarah Friswell, PR Manager at the Cathedral. ‘The tours give locals and visitors alike the chance to find out more detailed information about a particular aspect of this beautiful building.’
Tickets for the tour cost £5 per person and include a hot drink in Pilgrims’ Kitchen at the end of the tour. Please book by calling into the Cathedral Tourist Information Point on Angel Hill (open Monday to Saturday 11 am to 3 pm or Sunday 11.30 am to 2 pm).
The Guides also offer daily tours of the Cathedral at 11 am (except Sundays).
