Find out about Bury’s link to Magna Carta ...
The tour guides at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, are offering a series of themed tours to enable local residents and visitors the opportunity to find out more about Suffolk’s Cathedral and to enjoy refreshments in the Cathedral’s restaurant, Pilgrims’ Kitchen.
The second tour in the series is on Saturday 6 June at 10 am and will focus on Bury’s links to Magna Carta. Monday 15 June 2015 marks the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta being sealed by King John at Runnymede but Bury marked its anniversary in 2014, because of the meeting of the barons which took place in the Abbey of St Edmund in 1214. This themed tour will explore our Magna Carta links.
‘The national Magna Carta anniversary is generating renewed interest in this important document,’ comments Sarah Friswell, PR Manager at the Cathedral.
‘This tour will shed light on why Bury is a Magna Carta Trust town.’
Tickets for the tours cost £5 per person and include a hot drink in Pilgrims’ Kitchen at the end of the tour. Please book by calling into the Cathedral Tourist Information Point on Angel Hill (open Monday to Saturday 11 am to 3 pm or Sunday 11.30 am to 2 pm).
The final tour in the series is on Saturday 4 July with an American Connections tour.
The Guides also offer daily tours of the Cathedral at 11 am (except Sundays).
