Combined choirs give concert at St Edmundsbury Cathedral...
On Saturday 14 March the combined choirs of St Edmundsbury and Chelmsford Cathedrals will give a concert entitled ‘I sing of a maiden’ at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds. The concert starts at 7 pm and tickets cost £10 and are available from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 01284 769505 or www.theatreroyal.org.
The programme for the concert, which is music based on texts dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, has been specially chosen to reflect the fact that it is Mothering Sunday the following day. During the concert both choirs will sing a number of pieces together, and each choir, both the boys and the men, will sing individual pieces too.
‘We are delighted to be working with our colleagues from Chelmsford Cathedral,’ comments James Thomas, Director of Music at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. ‘The combined choirs make a rich sound together, fitting for the beautiful setting of the Cathedral.’
It is hoped that because of the choice of date and music people might buy tickets as a present for Mothering Sunday.
Last year the St Edmundsbury and Chelmsford Cathedral choristers joined the choristers of Ely Cathedral in a successful concert at Ely Cathedral.
There is a special Sung Eucharist for Mothering Sunday on 15 March at 10 am, to which all are welcome.
