Cathedral Organ Recital...
On Sunday 11 January 2015 Messiaen’s La Nativité du Seigneur will be performed on the magnificent Harrison and Harrison organ at St Edmundsbury Cathedral by Cathedral Director of Music, James Thomas. The recital starts at 5 pm and is free of charge with a retiring collection. All are welcome.
La Nativité du Seigneur is Olivier Messiaen’s great cycle of music celebrating the birth of Christ.
‘This piece is part of the traditional Christmas repertoire of music at the Cathedral,’ comments James Thomas. ‘I’ve played the whole work at least 20 times, at St Edmundsbury and Blackburn cathedrals and in France, where I learned it with my then organ teacher Louis Thiry, who played all of Messiaen’s organ music and was much admired by the composer.’
A full music programme for the coming year with the annual Organ Festival, concerts and lunchtime recitals will be launched shortly.
