Pray for Peace...
A special prayer area has been created in the Edmund Chapel at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds. Although this chapel has always been available for private prayer, two images have been added which depict some of the areas of destruction in our world at the moment. This has created a focus for prayer. Candles are available to be lit and prayer sheets are also provided.
‘We live in a troubled world. The conflicts in so many places can make us frightened and anxious about what is happening to God's world’, comments Canon Philip Banks, Canon Precentor at the Cathedral. ‘We are encouraging people to take time to pray for God's peace; for an end to war; for all caught up as refugees and captives.’
The Edmund Chapel is dedicated to St Edmund, who, in the ninth century, was murdered for standing by his faith in God. The Chapel is used regularly to remember many people, who, through the centuries, have died or have been persecuted.
The Cathedral is open daily.
