17/05/2019Whitsun Fayre Social media bannersAs most of you will be aware next Bank Holiday weekend (Sunday & Monday 10am-4pm) we host the Whitsun Fayre in the town centre and we are hoping for big crowds and good weather. As always we would be grateful if you could make as many of your friends, family, colleagues and customers aware of this. If you were able to do this on social media or via e mail you can click on this link and access some specifically created banners for this purpose. Thanks for your support https://www.ourburystedmunds.com/events-members

17/05/2019Pay on Exit As I mentioned recently the Council have agreed to introduce a Pay on Exit (branded “Flexi Park” by the Council) option in the St Andrews Street North Car Park (behind the bus station and accessible from Parkway, opposite the Fire Station, from Tuesday 11th June). What I may not have made absolutely clear is that the car park is currently split into long and short stay parking and that the Long Stay spaces (all day for £3) is not affected by this trial. The current long stay spaces will remain accessible as long stay spaces. It is the 350+ short stay spaces (currently maximum stay is only 3 hours) that people will be able to stay in for as long as they wish and then pay accordingly, before they leave the car park. I will update you with more details as we approach the launch but I hope this clarification has been of use to you.

17/05/2019Ten Good Deeds at the arcYou may have seen that since February the arc shopping centre has had a new manager, Abbie Panks is very keen for the arc to be part of the town centre and not a “stand alone” shopping centre. If you follow the arc on social media you may have noticed a change, in this respect, in regards of their messages since she has been in post. She has also introduced a new idea, called ”10 Good Deeds” whereby each month the shopping centre financially contributes to a local community initiative, whether delivered by an individual or group and already 3 good deeds have been allocated to a local charity, a school and a local volunteering group. Abbie does not live locally so would like to receive more nominations, as she is aware generally of so much good work is going on in and around Bury but not the specifics and she wants to be able to recognise and reward this positive activity. She would like to receive nominations at www.arc-burystedmunds.com/10-good-deeds with a short explanation of why the nominee should be recognised but just as importantly what can the arc do to help the individual or group.

17/05/2019Theatre Star TrailThis joint initiative between the BID and the Theatre Royal, to celebrate their 200th anniversary, commences next Saturday (25th) and will involve 25 stars being placed on the ground around the town centre, each with the name of an artist who has performed at the Theatre Royal and as I type this all but just 1 are sponsored by a local company. The challenge is for people to find all 25 stars and to place the name of each performer on the entry from (available from participating businesses and the Tourism Points in the town). There will be 10 prizes allocated from all the correct entries we receive at the BID offices. The trail runs throughout the summer until the 27th October and I am confident that thousands of people will take part in the trail and bring additional footfall past the door of many of our businesses.
