St Edmundsbury Cathedral

We are looking for a professional mezzo-soprano, ideally with strong connections to Suffolk** to play Mrs. Noye in St Edmundsbury Cathedral’s fully staged production of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde as part of Flooded!

Flooded! is a night of theatre, opera and song combining The Fool’s Flood by Neil Clayton (a new play about an historic flood in Bury St Edmunds), and Benjamin Britten’s family opera, Noye’s Fludde.  The project brings together St Edmundsbury Cathedral, 15 local schools, Britten Pears Arts, Suffolk Music Service and multiple community groups. The production is the largest arts project undertaken by the Cathedral in recent times and will involve over 200 locals and professional creatives. Flooded will be conducted by incoming Cathedral Director of Music, Claudia Grinnell, directed by Anna Pool and designed by Stewart J Charlesworth.

Applicants can be any age (over 18), or ethnicity, but an understanding of working alongside young performers and being ready to chat about some big themes like the climate emergency and migration will be a big asset.  The successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS check (the Cathedral can assist in providing this if applicant has not got one).
