Town's 'health' check report to be presented to Bury businesses...

Business people in Bury St Edmunds town centre will be the first to hear the findings of a new report into the town’s economy at a meeting next week. The ‘benchmarking’ study, which includes the views of town centre users and local businesses has been commissioned by the Business Improvement District (BID) organisation Ourburystedmunds.

The BID’s Chief Executive Mark Cordell will present the report to representatives of member businesses at the Ourburystedmunds AGM on Tuesday evening (23 June). All members, who pay a levy for the services provided by the BID including around 20 who have joined voluntarily, have been invited to the meeting.

Mr Cordell said: “This is an opportunity for people who run a town centre business to talk to BID staff and members of the Board of Directors about what the BID is doing and to raise any questions. Despite winning a ballot of members last year to continue the BID for a further five years it’s very important to us to engage with the members so we know that we are providing a good, value-for-money service.

“Once again I have commissioned a study into how the town centre is performing because it gives valuable feedback from the people who use the town centre but also lets us see how Bury St Edmunds compares to other similar sized towns in the region and nationally.”

The meeting will also include a presentation to businesses about how to save money on waste disposal costs from Karen Cannard, author of ‘The Rubbish Diet’, and Kate McFarland from St Edmundsbury Borough Council. It takes place at Pilgrims Kitchen on Angel Hill from 6pm.
