St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, launches its 2013 programme of guided tours with two tours aimed at local residents. As part of English Tourism week, tour guides will be available to offer free tours at 11.30 am on Wednesday 20 and Saturday 23 March. People participating in these special tours will also receive a free guide book and a voucher for use in the Cathedral Shop.

Then the main Guided Tour season will start on Monday 1 April, Easter Monday, and will continue throughout the year until September. From this date tours are available daily at 11.30 am (except Sundays). There is no charge for the tours and no need to book. Simply meet the Guide just inside the main door of the Cathedral (accessed from Angel Hill).

‘We often overlook visiting the places on our doorsteps,’ comments Sarah Friswell, Cathedral Public Relations Manager. ‘Whether you have lived here for many years, or it’s your first visit, a Cathedral tour will be enlightening and enjoyable.’

An additional tour is available this year on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when the volunteer guides will be on hand to give an introductory 15 minute tour at 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm.

The Cathedral also offers visitors the chance of refreshments in the Refectory, open Monday to Saturday 9.30 am to 4.00 pm and the Cathedral Shop has many gift ideas, books, CDs, and greetings cards. It is open Monday to Saturday 10.00 am to 5.00 pm and Sunday 11.30 am to 4.00 pm.
