Beautiful Beers stock Punk beers...
Punk music may be a thing of the past but punk beers are certainly a very current issue. With more and more craft breweries opening in the UK, Beautiful Beers, the newly-opened independent shop at 1b St John's Street, Bury St Edmunds, is now the main stockist for Brewdog Beers in East Anglia.
“Brewdog beers are exciting and unusual beers with bold flavours, showcasing some of the world’s classic beer styles,” René van den Oort, Beautiful Beers’ owner said. “I’m really thrilled that I was able to get in 11 different Brewdog beers, many of which have won numerous awards around the world for their quality, flavour and choice of fine ingredients.”
Marketing as ‘Beer for Punks’, Brewdog’s beers from Fraserburgh, Scotland are, according to their marketing literature “the epitome of pure punk”. “We brew uncompromising, bold and irreverent beer, which we see as a modern day rebellion against the faceless, large corporate brewers that produce industrial, bland, soulless beer”. Their maverick approach to marketing and promoting their beers has upset some in the brewing and beer world, including Britain’s largest consumer advocacy group, the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA).
Trashy Blonde, Punk IPA, Alice Porter, Black Tokyo Horizon, Tactical Nuclear Penguin are some of the colourful names given to Brewdog’s beers, with the latter launched in November 2009 as the world’s strongest beer. “This particular beer demands respect and at 32% abv should be enjoyed in spirit sized measures,” René said. “but not all their beers are that strong. The Trashy Blonde at just 4.2% abv has great fruit and hop flavours, and is comparable to beers of usually much higher strength.”
The co-operation between Brewdog and Beautiful Beers means they are now one of Brewdog’s main distributors in East Anglia. “I want to share their great beers with as many people in East Anglia as possible, whether they are individuals or trade customers,” René said.
René is has a window display based around Brewdog’s Tactical Nuclear Penguin beer, featuring an Antarctic landscape with a life-size penguin. He is also planning a beer tasting which will feature a selection of Brewdog beers, information of which will be available from their website, Twitter and facebook
