The summer is coming to an end: the nights are drawing in, the mornings are misty and the leaves are beginning to turn brown. After such a lovely summer, it’s all too easy to feel a little depressed, but don’t be down, the autumn/winter season brings with it a whole host of fantastic events in Bury St Edmunds!

EXHIBITIONS AT THE EDMUND GALLERY
Winter too gloomy for you? Then get some colour in your life! Situated on Angel Hill, next to the St Edmundsbury Cathedral, The Edmund Gallery will be holding a number of back-to-back exhibitions over the coming months, showing work from a variety of artists and styles.
CRAFTS & GIFTS AT THE APEX
8th October & 22nd October
Bury St Edmunds is brimming with talented craftspeople and in October they will be holding an exhibition of their work at The Apex. Head in out of the cold for a warm and friendly shopping experience.
THE GHOSTLY & MACABRE WALK
October - November, various dates
Are you a fan of a good horror story? Do you love spooks, spectres and ghostly apparitions? Then you’ll love the Ghostly & Macabre Walk! This fantastic guided walk will introduce you to the darker side of Bury St Edmunds.
SCI-FI & ACTION EXHIBITION 2016
22nd October - 13th November
The 8th Annual Sci-Fi exhibition at the Moyses Hall Museum promises to be one of the best yet! With over 100 items of memorabilia on offer, including original screen costumes, artwork, comics and special guests, head along to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Alien, 40th Anniversary of Star Wars filming and 50th Anniversary of Star Trek in style!
SHAKESPEARE SCHOOLS FESTIVAL
31st October, 1st and 8th November
Help to bring your community together at The Apex while enjoying the tales of one of the world’s best storytellers! The Shakespeare Schools Festival involves over 1,000 schools and 138 theatres, and includes a series of unique performances from young people from all over Suffolk.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON
Head over to this eagerly-awaited annual event and get into the festive mood! There will be stalls, entertainment, fairground rides and maybe even a few of Santa’s reindeer to say hello to! But by far the biggest attraction is watching Bury St Edmunds come alive with colour as the lights are switched on!
As if the Christmas Lights Switch On didn’t get you into the spirit, the Christmas Fayre will begin on 24th November! This amazing event in Bury St Edmunds extends all the way from Abbey Gardens to The Apex, boasting over 300 stalls selling gifts, crafts, food and much, much more! Add to this some fantastic fairground rides and entertainment and you can see why this event is so popular!
BBC RADIO SUFFOLK CAROL CONCERT
There is nothing more Christmasy than a night of carol singing! The Apex is hosting a concert featuring music and readings from BBC Suffolk presenters and Suffolk musicians, so head over to get into the festive mood!
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
2nd December - 5th January, various dates
No Christmas is complete without a good old pantomime and the Theatre Royal is putting on a cracker this year! Beauty and the Beast is one of the best-loved fairytales of all time and it is brought to life brilliantly in this traditional family pantomime.
