E-card launch for Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card
_E-card launch for Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card
Shoppers in Bury St Edmunds have embraced the town’s Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card to such an extent that a trial of an e-card version is about to start. Launched by the Business Improvement District (BID) almost four years ago, the card has already generated nearly £150,000 for more than 70 town centre businesses accepting it.
The e-card will be available to be gifted to a recipient’s digital wallet. Our Bury St Edmunds is delighted to work with Town & City Gift Cards to offer this initiative adaptation.
Business Support Manager for Our Bury St Edmunds BID Mike Kirkham hopes the trial will encourage even more people to shop local. He added: “As a BID we are always looking to be innovative and embrace technology that supports our member businesses. The Gift Card has been hugely successful since its launch as we came out of lockdown in 2020 and it’s testament to that to have so many town centre establishments accepting it from shops to eateries, salons to solicitors. Having an e-card as well will make it easier for customers who are already using their phone as a wallet anyway.”
The move has also been welcomed by the store manager at Javelin, Lucy Payne. She commented: “The Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card is such an asset for the town centre and Javelin has accepted it here from the early days. The e-card version is a common sense move forward and I am sure customers will appreciate another way in which to gift or spend it.”
The Gift Card is Mastercard-based, allowing users to purchase with confidence. It has been developed by Miconex which has developed similar projects for almost 100 towns, cities and regions in the UK.
Managing director of Miconex Colin Munro said: “The Our Bury St Edmunds Gift Card keeps the funds loaded onto it locked into the local economy, supporting local businesses and jobs. We are very excited to be launching the e-card trial in Bury St Edmunds which has already seen such success with the total amount gifted onto cards and the number of businesses engaging with it for a town of this size.”
