Things to do in Bury St Edmunds
When visiting Bury St Edmunds, a varied and thriving market town, you will not be short of things to do. We’ve decided to put together a quick list of some of our favourite things to get you started!
The Bury Ale Trail
Bury St Edmunds has a rich history of brewing, due to the Greene King Brewery establishing itself in town in 1799, and that was only the beginning of the town enjoying its fine export. There are a number of Greene King pubs, as well as a variety of independent public houses, including the former smallest pub in the UK, The Nutshell! Check out the full list here.
Bury Tour Guides
One of the many things to do in Bury is take a tour of our fine town with one of the very experiences Bury Tour Guides. They run a number of tours about history and heritage as well as a ghost walk of the town in the winter months.
Browse the independent shops
Bury has a fantastic range of independent and small businesses, whether you’re looking for a gift in Quest or KoTi, new outfit at Six or Javelin, or some fine jewellery from Tony Stowger Designs, there is a place for everyone! We love to celebrate our Independent businesses and dedicate a whole week to them in July near “Independence Day”.
Have a bite to eat
Something that should be on your list of things to do in Bury St Edmunds, is having a bite to eat. You may not know that our town is a very foodie location, with a number of award-winning restaurants, such as Maison Bleue, Ben’s, 1921. Check out our full listing here
Take part in the World War 1 Trail
Another on the many list of things to do should be from Mid July is the World War 1 trail, which is running all the way until Armistice Day. It’s a free public art trail which will be displaying art created by local artists with the theme of remembrance for the first world war. You can pick up a leaflet in exchange for a small donation to My Wish Charity from any of the tourist information points in town. Check out more information on the artists and the pieces.
If you’re still short of things to do in Bury St Edmunds, keep an eye on the events page on our website, as we’re always adding new things!
