Half Term in Bury St Edmunds

Keep the little nippers entertained this half term with these fantastic activities throughout the town.

Trees in Town Competition

Trees in Town is a creative competition open to all ages and abilities to raise awareness of trees across Bury St Edmunds. 22 trees in the town centre are included and they are looking for illustrations using whichever media you like to show the character of the tree.

All entries will be included in an online exhibition and winning entries will be included within a booklet depicting various trees in the town.

It is free to enter the competition and prizes will be awarded to all entrants chosen for the booklet. All entries must be in to the Apex desk by 6th June 2017.

Sketch Lounge ‘Keep on Movin’'

Date: Thursday 1st June

An evening of eclectic and exciting drawing workshops for all ages in The Apex Lounge, celebrating Soul II Soul performing at the Apex, and set to a soundtrack of live DJs!

No previous experience necessary, just come along and get creative!

Suffolk Talons and Essex Tails

Dates: 30th-31st May
Times: 10am-12pm & 1pm-3pm
Tickets: £2.50 per child, Under 3's £1

Venue: St Edmundsbury Cathedral

Head over to St Edmundsbury Cathedral for a great few days of fun storytelling trail and crafts all about dragons and a story that crosses over the boarder from Suffolk into Essex!

Hatty, the fabulous storyteller will enthral families with tales of the battles between the Suffolk Black dragon and Essex Red dragon! This holiday event coincides with the Suffolk Heraldry Exhibition that will be on display in the Cathedral.

So come along and join-in with storytelling, crafts and a heraldic hunt around the Cathedral. Create your own history, design your own coat of arms for your family, and create your own dragon to take home.

Moyse’s Hall Museum

Opening times: Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 12pm-4pm

Set in the heart of Bury St Edmunds within an amazing medieval building, the Moyse's Hall Museum offers rich and eclectic collections and changing exhibitions which are guaranteed to provide fun for all of the family.

There are many fascinating local history exhibitions, from social history, to military history through to prison paraphernalia, crime and witchcraft. Alongside this there is an exquisite collection of clocks, timepieces and historic artwork.

Not only can you view all this amazing history, but you can also take part in one of the many events that take place throughout the year, from themed family workshops to historical lectures.

Abbey Gardens

Opening Times: Monday-Saturday 7.30am-7.30pm, Sunday 9am-7.30pm

The internationally acclaimed Abbey Gardens is located in the centre of Bury St Edmunds, with the magnificent St Edmundsbury Cathedral as its backdrop.

This six hectare site is filled with fantastic things to do throughout the year, but the summertime is the prime time to enjoy this wonderful space. You can admire the Appleby Rose Garden, stroll the central area with its amazing display of flowers, explore the Sensory Garden, or relax on the bank of the River Lark.

If you’re looking for something a little more energetic, you could try your hand at tennis, be bowled over by bowls or practice your putts at the putting green. Alternatively, if you need to take the kids somewhere to let off some steam, head to the play area, woodland tree houses, willow maze or just go wild on the crazy golf course!
