Posted on Thursday, 6th April, 2017

What better way to enjoy the Easter bank holiday than with a short break in Bury St Edmunds? With amazing history, beautiful architecture, picturesque gardens, fabulous shopping and a renowned selection of bars and restaurants, what’s not to enjoy?

The best part is that we have some wonderful hotels in Bury St Edmunds to make your stay as comfortable as possible. In this blog, we’ve focused on our two favourites: The Northgate and The Angel. They both offer fantastically comfortable accommodation within a short walk of everything the town has to offer.

The newly-opened Northgate Hotel is set within an historic house just a few moments’ walk from Bury St Edmunds town centre.

This boutique hotel offers ten individually-styled bedrooms which adopt an opulent French theme throughout and make for a luxurious setting. The period features of the beautiful building combine with all the modern elements that you would expect to create the perfect combination of historic charm and 21st century luxury.

The Northgate offers a range of refined menus to cater for all tastes and situations. Enjoy a hearty English breakfast, or keep it healthy with a refreshing smoothie. Sit down for a casual lunch or treat yourself to a slice of delicious cake with your coffee. Or why not enjoy a fantastic evening meal from the modern European menu.

There is also an extensive drinks offering which can be enjoyed in the inviting bar, or on the spacious heated terrace. A full range of the world’s leading wines, the finest ales, and delicious organic soft drinks means that you are well catered-for throughout the day. Then, as the evening arrives, you can sample some of the amazing cocktails on offer from a menu created by a team of the country’s leading mixologists.

There is a fantastic selection of rooms and suites that follow a number of themes. The ‘Impressions’ range of rooms contains cool shades and glitzy touches of urban design, contemporary furniture and arty decor. The ‘Originals’ range is beautifully spacious with a restrained contemporary design giving a unique cosy feel and relaxed vibe. The ‘Classics’ offer a homely feel, classical in design with a hint of tradition and craft.

The Angel Hotel Eaterie has been rated 2 AA Rosettes for its superb modern British cuisine. This chic and elegant restaurant focuses on local produce with a twist of something different. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a little treat, then you can enjoy delicious Afternoon Tea which is available daily from 2:30pm - 4:30pm.

The Wingspan Bar is located under the hotel in the 12th Century vault and its ancient architecture is complemented by modern furniture and an eclectic mix of curiosities. There is an extensive wine list that features 30 varieties of quality wines by the glass and also a sensational cocktail menu to enjoy.
