Getting to Bury St Edmunds this Christmas

Christmas in Bury St Edmunds is a truly magical time. There are loads of fantastic things to see and do, including the Christmas Lights Switch On, the Christmas Fayre, all the hundreds of fantastic independent shops where you can find that perfect Christmas gift, not to mention the award-winning market.

And the best thing about it is how well-connected the town is, making it easy to visit throughout the festive period. So, if you’re wondering how to get to Bury St Edmunds this Christmas, look no further than the below guide.


Bury St Edmunds has great road connections, being located just of the A14 which links to London in less than two hours via the M11 or A12. The Midlands are also within easy reach and the A1(M) offers good links to the North.


Getting to Bury St Edmunds by train is a great way to visit with services from Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and parts of Hertfordshire. The bus station in Bury St Edmunds sits right in the heart of town and is just a couple of minutes’ walk from all of the fabulous shops, restaurants and cafes that the town has to offer. If you fancy a winter stroll into town, then why not check out one of the Park & Walk sites located around 20 minutes from the town centre?

Saturday & Sunday - West Suffolk College, Beetons Way, IP33 3TT - £2 per car
Friday, Saturday & Sunday - Olding Road Car Park, Olding Road, IP33 3YE - Free of charge

Park & Ride
The Christmas Fayre park and ride service runs from Saxham Business Park, just off the A14 (IP28 6RX). This site is well signed from all major routes and the A14. Park and Ride is available Friday and Saturday 8:30am – 8:30pm and Sunday 9:00am – 5:30pm. £8 per car.
